Back Pain
Lower back pain, herniated disc, and other back conditions

What is it?
Back pain is one of the most common reasons to visit a physiotherapist. Whether it is lower back pain, a herniated disc, acute lumbago or chronic back complaints: the impact on your daily life can be enormous. At Physical Studio we understand that every back is different and that a personal approach is essential for lasting recovery.
Back pain can range from a dull, continuous sensation to sharp, sudden pain radiating to the legs. It often arises from a combination of factors such as poor posture, insufficient movement, overloading or stress. In some cases a structural abnormality plays a role, such as a herniated disc or spinal stenosis.
At Physical Studio we combine advanced diagnostics with evidence-based treatments to identify the cause of your complaints and treat them effectively. Our goal is not only pain relief but also prevention of recurring complaints.
Common causes
- Poor sitting or standing posture
- Overloading through sport or work
- Lack of core stability and muscle strength
- Herniated disc or disc degeneration
- Acute lumbago
- Stress and tension
- Sciatica (radiating pain to the leg)
How we diagnose
At Physical Studio we start with an extensive intake interview and physical examination. We use ultrasound imaging to assess muscles, tendons and soft tissues around the spine. Additionally, we perform a biomechanical assessment to measure movement patterns, muscle strength and stability. With VALD Force Decks we can objectively identify strength differences and asymmetries that contribute to your complaints.
Treatment approach
Our approach to back pain combines manual therapy, targeted exercise therapy and personal training. We start by reducing pain and muscle tension through manual techniques. Then we gradually build up with exercises focused on core stability, muscle strength and flexibility. Our therapists are also personal trainers, which makes the transition from rehabilitation to training seamless. We monitor your progress with objective measurements so you can see your own recovery.
Expected recovery
Recovery time for back pain varies widely depending on the cause and severity. Acute back pain or lumbago often improves within 2-4 weeks. Chronic back complaints or a herniated disc typically require a 6-12 week programme. We recommend continuing with maintenance training after recovery to prevent relapse.
When to seek help
Seek help if your back pain persists for more than two weeks, if pain radiates to your legs, if you experience tingling or numbness, or if you struggle with daily activities such as lifting, bending or walking. In the case of sudden loss of bladder function or severe loss of leg strength, seek immediate medical attention.
