Neck Pain
Neck pain caused by strain or poor posture, whiplash, or radiating symptoms.

What is it?
Neck complaints are increasingly common, partly due to increased screen work and a sedentary lifestyle. Neck pain can range from mild stiffness to severe pain radiating to shoulders, arms or the head. At Physical Studio we offer a targeted, evidence-based approach for all forms of neck complaints.
The neck is a complex area with seven vertebrae, many muscles and nerves that provide movement and stability of the head. Problems in this area can lead to headaches, dizziness, radiating pain and limited range of motion.
Our therapists specialize in diagnosing and treating neck complaints. Using ultrasound and biomechanical analysis, we create an accurate picture of your complaints and develop a treatment plan tailored to your situation.
Common causes
- Prolonged screen work and poor work posture
- Whiplash from an accident
- Muscle tension from stress
- Wear of cervical vertebrae (cervical osteoarthritis)
- Herniated disc in the neck (cervical hernia)
- Sleeping position
- Pinched nerve in the neck
How we diagnose
Our diagnostic process starts with a detailed intake interview about your complaints, work and lifestyle. We perform a thorough physical examination including movement tests and neurological tests. With ultrasound we assess the condition of muscles and soft tissues in the neck area. A biomechanical assessment helps us identify postural problems and muscle imbalances.
Treatment approach
Treatment of neck complaints at Physical Studio combines manual therapy with active exercise therapy. Manual techniques are used to restore mobility and reduce muscle tension. Subsequently we work on posture correction, muscle strengthening and ergonomic advice. For chronic neck complaints we integrate personal training to structurally strengthen the neck and shoulder muscles.
Expected recovery
Acute neck complaints typically improve within 2-6 weeks. Whiplash-related complaints can take 3-6 months. Chronic neck complaints often require a longer programme of 8-12 weeks, with emphasis on active exercise therapy and posture modification.
When to seek help
Seek help if neck pain persists for more than a week, with radiation to arms or hands, with tingling or numbness, with headaches originating from the neck, or with dizziness. After a whiplash trauma, it is important to quickly schedule an assessment.
